This is a Ph.D. dissertation. There is an intimate relation between special functions of hypergeometric type and representation theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras. Both research fields benefit from this relation; representation theory can be used to obtain results for special functions, and special function theory can be used to find representation theoretic results.
This thesis refers to the books by Vilenkin and Klimyk for many examples of special functions related to representation theory.
