This collection of essays reflects the focal points of the author's interest during the last years: the New Testament, the ancient church, and Christian apocryphal literature. Eight articles deal with Luke and Acts, and their subject matter ranges from a report on the state of the question to a detailed analysis of Luke's use of Scripture and the formal aspects of quotation. Other essays focus on the early Christian apocrypha and the ancient church; five essays deal with theological topics at the crossroads between the New Testament and the apocrypha. The essays are written in German and English, or have been translated into English, for this collection.

Contents include: The Apostolic Memories in Ancient Christianity, Studies in Luke-Acts: Retrospect and Prospect, Apocalyptic Traditions in the Lukan Special Material, The Law in Luke Acts, The Lukan Story of the Passion of Jesus, The Role of the Scriptures in the Composition of the Gospel of Accounts: The Temptations of Jesus and the Multiplication of the Loaves, The Church in the New Testament, Servant and Victorious, These Christians Who Dream: The Authority of Dreams in the First Centuries of Christianity, The Canonical Structure of Gospel and Apostle, Israel in the Theology of the Apostle Paul, Jesus' Missionary Speech as Interpreted in the Patristic Commentaries and the Apocryphal Narratives, The Synoptic Gospels and the Non-canonical Acts of the Apostles, The Suspension of Time in Chapter 18 of the Protevangelium Jacobi, The Words of Life in the Acts of the Apostle Andrew, Miracles, Magic, and Healing in the Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles, A New Citation of the Acts of Paul in Origen, Eusebius of Caesarea's Ecclesiastical History and the History of Salvation, From St. Luke to St. Thomas by Way of St. Cyril, The Apocryphal Reception of Luke's Gospel and the Orthodox Reading of the Apocryphal Acts of the Apostles.
