The aim of the author has been to examine the process of linguistic revitalization among these groups especially from the perspective of the individual family, the preschool and the school, the three key factors in all language revitalization. The study gives a short overview of international research on language maintenance, shift and revitalization before narrowing its focus to linguistic revitalization among the northern minorities in Scandinavia and Finland.
