The new edition of the Polish Red Data Book has been prepared for three reasons: firstly, a marked progress has been made in the studies of the fauna of Poland, allowing the more precise evaluation of the population and conservation status of particular species. Secondly, during the last twenty years the population status of many species has substantially changed. Thirdly, the World Conservation Union has adopted a new system of classifying species conservation status and their selection to red books, which should be taken into account in preparing regional and national reports of this kind. Includes a European and Polish map for each species. Illustrated with color photographs and illustrations and black & white scientific drawings. English summaries and tables.
