The Septuagint - the Greek translation of the Old Testament - originated as a Jewish translation of the Bible which was started in the 3rd century BC. It provides insights into the way in which those Jews who spoke Greek understood the scriptures. Septuagint research is an independent field apart from the study of the Hebrew Bible. This volume contains studies of the historical background of the Septuagint, its textual history, philology, individual problems of Septuagint scriptures and the reception of the Septuagint. It provides an update on current research and shows the perspectives for further research. This volume resulted from a conference held by the Septuaginta Deutsch Project in Wuppertal in July 2008.
