This guide describes A Corpus of English Dialgues 1560-1760 (CED). The CED is a 1.2 million-word computerized corpus of Early Modern English speech related texts, compiled at the Department of English, Uppsala University, and the Department of Linguistics and English Language, Lancaster University. Historical corpora are important tools for the study of the language of the past: they offer relatively easy access large amounts of data.

The corpus contains texts representative of Trial Proceedings, Witness Depositions, Drama Comedy, Didactic Works and Prose Fiction across a 200-year period. This guide explains how the corpus is structured and annotated, and gives full bibliographical information on each source text.
