The book contains keys to the determination of 10 subfamilies, 15 tribes , 58 genera with 16 subgenera and 177 species and subspecies of the family Elateridae inhabiting the territories of the Czech and Slovak Republics and their immediate neighbourhood. The key characteristics of the taxa are supplemented by data on colouration, morphological and colour variability and notes on distribution and bionomics of imagos and larvae. The keys are illustrated by 430 pen-and-ink drawings of critical characters, and by colour pictures of all species showing characteristic shapes or colouration.
