A major problem with museum collections - especially in light of contemporary archaeological theory and practice - is their lack of context. This apparent shortcoming, related to the nature and characteristics of previously excavated (or looted) materials, should not discourage or prevent new and original studies on artifacts in museum collections.

Bona fide studies of museum collections are essential for ensuring the fullest possible publication of archaeological data, and for enriching the archaeological literature.

Following on from that premise, this catalogue presents all the holdings of Cypriote pottery and other materials in the Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow, seeks to integrate them into some useful archaeological and museological discussion, and adds one more important component to the richly published record of ancient Cyprus.
