Asean is about to embrace all of Southeast Asia with Cambodia's membership in the regional grouping. As one of its most important priorities, regional economic integration will bring about far-reaching challenges and opportunities for Cambodia. It is thus imperative that Cambodia develop well-defined policies, strategies and plans of action.

Besides delving into the crucial issues underlying the concept of regional economic integration and its prospects for Cambodia and comparing key economic indicators between Cambodia and other Asean member states to identify the common denominators of Asean economic structures and the economic strength of Cambodia.

This book also discusses the Cambodian government's policies and strategies in preparing for admission into the Asean Free Trade Area (AFTA), the Asean Investment Area (AIA) and other preparatory efforts to implement the Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEPT) scheme. An analysis of the lessons learnt from the regional economic crisis in relation to Cambodia's economic and financial management is also looked into. All these are expected to have significant impact on Cambodia's economy and are thus the economic cornerstones of its admission into Asean.
